The Postition
York Academy invites application from individuals interested in serving as Paraprofessionals or Educational Assistants on a full-time term basis starting August 29, 2016.
York Academy is a new innovative private school dedicated to craft generations of "Multi-Talented Students", "Multiple Intelligence Students" and "Renaissance Students". We serve approximately 250 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and we are located in Calgary, Alberta Canada. York Academy is an arts, sciences, technology, robotics, sports, language, social and culture immersion school with a vibrant and dedicated school leadership committed to supporting student learning through innovative knowledge that meets 21st Century students and parents' needs.
The Candidate
- Post-secondary education
- Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Record System Check
- Strong research and instructional skills
- Interpersonal skills with an emphasis on compassion, patience and professionalism
- Creativity to develop action plans that are engaging and educational
- Ability to work within a team, with integrity, enthusiasm, initiative and confidence
- Excellent communication skills with parents, students and colleagues
- Willingness to take on extra-curricular activities
- Good health and physical fitness
- The ability to deal with the emotional and mental stress of working with a student or groups of students who are often active and demanding
- The ability to interact with students and staff in a tactful, empathetic manner
- Competent speaking and writing skills
- The ability to take direction and work independently and effectively in a team environment
- Keen observation skills
- The ability to keep student information confidential
- A positive attitude
- Flexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity and imagination
- A strong commitment to the development, progress and inclusion of students with special needs in education.
Would Be An Asset
- Experience with action-based, challenge-based, knowledge-based education
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- The ability to infuse York Academy mandatory curriculum outcomes
- Experience and/or background in Early Childhood
Responsibilities
- Provide learning support to students and general support to teachers and other professionals.
- Work under the supervision of one or several teachers
- Work with individual students or groups of students both in the classroom and other settings
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Supervise students in structured (classroom) and unstructured (hallways, recess, lunch hour) settings
- Assist with preparing materials and clerical tasks as required.
- Specific duties vary from one position to another but, in general, under the direction of a teacher, Paraprofessionals educational assistants:
- Provide support for all students to be included in the classroom and school
