The Postition
York Academy invites application from individuals interested in serving as the Vice Principal on a full-time term basis starting August 29, 2016. York Academy is a new innovative private school dedicated to craft generations of "Multi-Talented Students", "Multiple Intelligence Students" and "Renaissance Students". We serve approximately 250 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and we are located in Calgary, Alberta Canada. York Academy is an arts, sciences, technology, robotics, sports, language, social and culture immersion school with a vibrant and dedicated school leadership committed to supporting student learning through innovative knowledge that meets 21st Century students and parents' needs.
The Candidate
- Alberta Teacher Certification
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, problem solving skills
- The ability to work effectively with diverse student and parent groups
- Excellent skills as a teacher and instructional leader
- Have a working knowledge of different learning styles, action-based, challenge-based, knowledge-based, research-based teaching strategies, current assessment practices and site-based management
- Have experience organizing staff development activities such as cognitive/peer coaching programs
- Willing to work collaboratively as a member of a professional learning community
- Demonstrated record of improving student achievement and increasing School completion rates
- Commitment to lifelong learning and personal development
- Has experience with and a passion for promoting educational success and culture of excellence
- Will work closely with stakeholders and the community to build relationships in order to create a positive, inviting school environment that is integrated into the life of the community
- Will actively seek local, provincial, national and international partnerships to create innovative program opportunities to engage and challenge students and promote lasting confidence, pride and accomplishment
- Is a strong instructional leader who will work with staff to ensure that students have high quality learning experiences
- Leads by example and is active in the life of the community
- Has a minimum of 3 successful years of teaching experience
- Facilitate and guide classroom teaching, balancing literacy and numeracy development with 21st Century skills and knowledge
- Support the creation of effective multi-dimensional instructional design practices
- Demonstrate consistent use of research-informed pedagogy and leadership practices
- Create a learning environment in which learners are challenged, engaged, supported and successful
- Model personal commitment to learning, while fostering a culture of reflection, self-awareness and growth
- Facilitate and promote the development of leadership capacity in others
- Use effective management strategies in order to maximize time for instructional leadership
To support York Academy's innovative philosophy of a well balanced seven-sphere - "Academics", "Artistic", "Cultural", "Social", "Athletics", "Personal Best", and "Character Building", the candidate should also possess:
- A commitment to a mandatory curriculum infusion of Fine and Performing Arts, STREAM [sciences, technology, robotics, engineering, architectures and mathematics], Sports and Athletics, Language and Communication, Culture and Social Immersion, and the ability to challenge staff and students to the highest best
- An ability to lead in the establishment and maintenance of a wholesome, emotional and professional atmosphere which characterizes York Academy as a renaissance school;
- An ability to provide leadership for the advancement of higher education by articulating York Academy vision to the staff, parents, students and the community in general;
- an ability to partner with local, provincial, national and international academic organizations
Preference will be given to the following:
- Master's program in administration, curriculum or leadership; completed, currently enrolled, or willing to commence
- Previous administrative experience
- Previous Inclusive Education experience
- Background and/or experience in instructional technology
- Experience in action-based, challenge-based, knowledge-based, research-based teaching strategies
