Pre-University School
Overview
York Academy & College Pre-University Program is designed for international and Canadian Middle School and Secondary/Diplomat School students (12 to 18 years old) as a successful head start to Post-Secondary Education. Modelled after Post-Secondary Education classes, the program provides students with motivated and superior university instruction while offering valuable lessons of university lifestyles and commitment. Our students are introduced to necessary skills to succeed in university. Through selected courses, they learn critical and creative thinking, teambuilding, leadership and presentation skills. Students also come away with an increased understanding of renowned Canadian and international universities admission processes and requirements as they also explore their areas of study and career interests

York Academy & College Pre-University program immerses students, who thrive on challenges and who want a successful head start to Post-Secondary Education while in Middle or Secondary School, in a university environment. The program also assist them to gain the skills they need for post-secondary study, to sample university-level courses, or to improve their communications skills at providing all the supports needed to be admitted to Post-Secondary Educational institutions.
Program Format
York Academy & College Pre-University Program Format is divided into two categories
- Category “A” – is oriented towards Middle School ages students (12 to 15 years old.)
- Category “B” – is oriented towards Secondary School ages students (16 to 18 years old.)
Curriculum
York Academy & College Pre-University Program offers students choices among a set of pre-determined courses with global themes that include leadership, citizenship, environment, and ecology and economics. International students can also choose to take English as a Second Language (ESL), a course that focuses on listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Our curriculum also presented with preparations for university choices, admission and application process. All courses are delivered in lecture, classroom and tutoring format. Our curriculum delivery is structured to:
- Develop critical thinking abilities and global citizenship awareness through classroom learning and practice exercises
- Enhance listening, speaking, writing, research, and presentation skills
- Identify and research topics and present findings
- Examine the history of sustainability, including food and energy conservation
- Understand ecology and economics, which together are becoming increasingly important in Canadian and international economies and trade
- Develop language communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for a variety of social settings through practice exercises and role-playing activities
- For international students with English being their second language, specific classes cover academic vocabulary, power pronunciation, and accent reductions
