Curriculum

York Academy & College’s superior curriculum and co-curriculum is delivered on the principles of addressing “Yesterday’s Knowledge” – “Today’s Advancement” – “Tomorrow’s Innovation” guided by our core vision of creating “Renaissance Students” and “Wholesome Individuals” who are well equipped to excel. We offer multi-facets, superior, differentiated, and qualitatively curriculum and co-curriculum that:

Having a well calculated plan for the successful achievements and ensuring students’ readiness for the successive stages of their educational and learning quest in life is a cornerstone of York Academy & College’s philosophy.

York Academy & College follows Alberta Education’s course of studies. However, we go above and beyond the recommended Alberta Education curriculum. Our rigorous curriculum and co-curriculum are designed to surpass the minimum requirements of 475 instructional hours for preparatory school (Junior Kindergarten to Kindergarten); 950 instructional hours for primary school through middle school (Grade One to Grade Nine); and 1000 hours of instruction for secondary school (Grade Ten to Grade Twelve). York Academy indeed provides between fifteen percent (15%) to twenty percent (20%) more instructional hours to students than what are required.

Depending on grade level, York Academy & College students spend anywhere from 40% to 60% of their time on the recommended minimum curriculum; and between 25% to 40% of their time on our advanced, innovative, strategic and interconnected curriculum and co-curriculum.

York Academy & College advanced curriculum and co-curriculum encompass the process of critical thinking, analysis and collaboration in which our students will integrate the process and concepts in real world contexts of sciences, technology, robotics, engineering, and mathematics to advance and interconnect multiple and transferable leaning tools while fostering skills and competencies for fine arts, performing arts, languages and communication, sports and athletics, personal best, ecology, cultural and social understandings.

Qualitative Curriculum Features

  1. York Academy & College boasts the provision of effective, advanced, innovative, and superior curriculum and co-curriculum designed to satisfy our students’ natural curiosity, the desire to be physically active and to learn through direct experiences and interactions that heartens excellence, wholesome education, good citizenship quality and good character; that contributes to exploring, discovering and critical thinking; that develops and mentors autonomous study skills; and that fosters lifelong learning for children aspire to become great and honor “Multi-Talented Students and Multiple Intelligence Renaissance Students”.

York Academy & College Curriculum and Co-Curriculum introduces advanced, innovative and progressive concepts in each grade at a much earlier level so that students are up to one grade level ahead in their respective classes while deeply embedding a culture of high expectations and advanced quality learning delivery which encompasses our core foundational philosophy, from a very young age.

York Academy & College Curriculum and Co-Curriculum accentuate students’ needs for significant intellectual, artistic, cultural, social, athletic, and personal best challenges and opportunities for leadership and for growing autonomy reflecting the different learning needs of students at various stages of their development, to find success in new experiences, provide valuable opportunities, reflecting increased personal value and self-esteem, supporting growing emotional, intellectual, artistic, and athletic needs that connect body, mind and spirit of each and every student.

  5. York Academy & College’s Curriculum and Co-Curriculum aim to ensure by graduation, students would have completed at least one university or college Advanced Placement Courses, with high school graduates entering university with nearly a full semester of university credit.
  6. York Academy & College’s rigorous infusion of academic programs relevance complemented by a global perspective that goes above and beyond the recommended provincial, national or international Education’s course of studies to ensure students’ potentials are fully explored and maximized.

Through our Academics, York Academy & college endeavors to create a culture of excellence where our students opt to become knowledgeable, compassionate good citizens and leaders who are equipped to excel. Our academics reflect the different learning needs of students at various stages of their development, and are designed to satisfy our students’ natural curiosity, the desire to be intellectually experienced and competitive and to learn through direct experience and interactions.

In many respects, York Academy & College students will be up to one grade level ahead in their respective classes. As our curriculum and co-curriculum are designed to cultivate “Multi-Talented and Multiple Intelligence Renaissance Students”, we have the benefits that allow us to introduce advanced, innovative and progressive concepts in each grade at a much earlier level. Subsequently, we address students’ needs for significant intellectual, artistic, cultural, social, athletics, and personal best challenge and opportunities for leadership, and growing autonomy.

To illustrate our commitment to advance learning at York Academy & College, students in our Preparatory School [Junior Kindergarten to Kindergarten] will learn how to read and write at a much higher level than the standard recommended curriculum. Instead of being content with teaching students numbers on a limited scale, our students will learn numbers up to higher scale, and beyond, as early as Junior Kindergarten.
