Code of Conduct
At York Academy & College, students are expected to act, behave and conduct in ways that support our philosophy, values and mission at all times. Students’ conduct shall bring the best out of themselves and each other. Through our best practice principles, faculty, adjunct professionals and staff are positive role models to students. Students, with the support of parents or guardians, should observe all school rules and procedures. York Academy & College Comprehensive Code of Conduct Policy is available for parents to review with their children upon admittance to the school. York Academy & College Students should:
- Make an honest, consistent effort to do well in all subjects by utilizing their abilities to the maximum extent possible
- Arrive at school on time and attend all classes
- Prepare and be ready for all classes by bringing all required materials and completing all homework assignments
- Be accountable for any school work missed as a result of absences due to illness or extra-curricular activities
- Display acceptable behaviour in hallways and classrooms
- Be active, positive, proactive and motivate
- Respect the rights and be considerate of the feelings of others
- Be courteous and responsible in words and actions
- Never partake in the humiliation of other students

Respect for Self
Students are expected to show respect for one’s self. Each student will aim for high standards of personal health and social responsibility. If students have issues, they are encouraged to discuss these with their Teachers, Principal, Vice-principal or School Guidance/Counsellor. York Academy & College will work together to resolve any issues that may arise.
Respect for Others
Every student attending York Academy & College has the right to do so in a safe, friendly and nurturing environment. Discrimination, verbal, physical and sexual harassment or bullying of others will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Any activity that has a negative effect on others will be dealt with according to the severity of the situation.
Respect for Property
Students are expected to respect the privacy and property of other students and York Academy & College staff, faculty, and adjunct professionals. All texts, equipment, library books and other materials must be cared for and returned when requested. Students are also expected to treat the school grounds and the school building with respect. Littering is strictly forbidden.
Respect for Community
Our students are York Academy & College’s representatives in the community. They are expected to act respectfully and courteous to everyone in the community.
Severe Violation of School Rules
The following are some behavioural example that are regarded as severe violations of York Academy & College’s rules with consequences range from warnings to removal from York Academy & College in accordance with the severity of the situation:
- Violent or threatening behaviour including bullying, racial harassment or discrimination
- Consuming alcohol and / or illegal drugs
- Setting off a false fire alarm
- Vandalism
- Bringing weapons to school
- Smoking on any part of the school property
School Uniform and Dress Code
Students are required to wear the designated York Academy & College school uniform. The uniform must be worn on school days and on all weekday school-sponsored activities. Student grooming should reflect a business-like manner.
Parent Council
Advocating and supporting an inclusive community is a priority for York Academy & College. Parents and families are welcomed and valued as contributing members of our success. They are valuable sources of wisdom and talent who serve the school in many ways such as event organizers, chaperons, guest speakers, drama performances directors, York Academy Annual Parents Recognition Awards Gala organizers and more.
To ensure York Academy & College Parent Council’s mandate is met with relevance, we have developed a shared vision, understood, and agreed-on purpose in order to retain a healthy culture of engagement and commitment on the part of parents. This includes:
- Landmarking and watermarking the school parent’s involvement vision and expectation broadly by broadening the concept of parent involvement and by developing a variety of parent personal best classes, workshops, seminars and special events.
- Encouraging, promoting and rewarding parents’ contribution and leadership, collaborative “Students – Family–Teacher–School – Community – Stakeholders” relationships that value the expertise and experience of families, which influence more positively our students’ lives and potentials throughout their academic and personal best journey.
- Reaching out to parents who are the least to get involved. Parents who feel wanted, needed, and appreciated tend to become more involved
- Creating a global and welcoming environment and have honest conversations. Parents are more likely to participate when they feel invited and when diversity is acknowledged and viewed as strength.
- Be visible in the community by providing extended services and programs to parents during after school operations hours
York Academy & College Parent Association has an Executive Board that meets monthly. Parent volunteers are needed throughout the year to support various events and activities. Prospective families who are interested in learning more about parent involvement in the school, you’re welcome to visit the Parent Association Bureau on campus.
York Academy & College Parent Council has established a Diversity Parent Collaborative (DPC) to further inclusivity. The DPC addresses issues within a diverse community, establishing greater communication and understanding among our families and the school. One of the special objectives of the DPC is to provide parents of different cultural backgrounds and native languages with a supportive community to help them understand and support their children’s York Academy experience and to engage in school life.
